Our farm is located at Alstonville in the heart of Australia’s subtropical paradise, one hours drive south of the Gold Coast. This spot was selected to start a flower growing operation in 1996 because it is warm enough (only just) to flower temperate crops in the winter without heating and just cool enough in the summer to get acceptable quality in liliums without cooling. That means crops could be grown outside and benefit from access to full sun. I have since discovered some shading is needed to stop liliums getting their buds burnt on those odd hot summer days.
