The pumps used for irrigation systems on flower farms are powered either by electric or diesel motors and often run for long periods of time. The motor supplying power to the shaft of the pump must match the pump requirements to ensure optimal operation and efficiency. A pump that is operating at reduced efficiency may continue to perform without any obvious problems. However, the problem will be revealed in an increasing power or fuel bill each quarter.
Detailed testing of the pumping and delivery components of an irrigation system will usually identify potential adjustments that can be made to improve pumping efficiency and optimise energy use, thereby helping to reduce energy bills.
