Light is the driving force of plant photosynthesis. The efficiency of photosynthesis is crucial for optimum crop production in horticulture and other agricultural production systems. As a grower it is essential to understand the key role and characteristics of light in order to efficiently produce quality plants and increase crop yields. This can be achieved by incorporating environmental control systems that manipulate the growing environment conditions resulting in more sophisticated levels of production.
As more growers realise the importance of being able to control light (shade), temperature and relative humidity the challenge is to design a greenhouse or shade structure that incorporates climate control systems to maintain optimum plant growing conditions. By manipulating light, temperature and relative humidity are also controlled within the growing environment.
