The most common hydroponic system used in the Queensland cut flower industry is drip feed media-based culture. This method uses more growing media than any other hydroponic system, so it is important to understand the properties of the media and how they relate to your irrigation system, even down to the shape of your grow bags, trays or pots.
Almost anything can be used to provide an anchor for plants being regularly provided with water and nutrients. However, it is very important to ensure the media is providing the right balance of air and water. All plants need oxygen as well as water in the root zone; otherwise they can become weakened and susceptible to disease.
