The Flower Association of Queensland Inc. (FAQI) in partnership with Griffith University has chosen to commence the creation of a booklet aid for members of the floral industry, that will help them to select viable, alternative species which are not invasive or weed species.

Weeds pose a major problem within Australia. Current and past approaches of trying to control the spread of weeds that have already established is an approach that is fighting a losing battle. Stopping weeds from becoming established is a newer, more successful approach that “catches the cat before it is out of the bag”. Industries such as agriculture and the nursery industries have taken steps to phase out the use or spread of weeds by their industries. The floral industry through this project will be encouraged to voluntarily reduce the prevalence and use of weeds in its activities similar to what has been undertaken in the
other horticultural industries nationwide.
